What is Hollie Guard?
Hollie Guard is a utility created following the unfortunate event that happened to Hollie Gazzard. Miss Gazzard was murdered by her ex-partner in 2014 while working on a hair salon in Gloucester. In her memory, and to prevent similar incidents from happening again, her family created the Hollie Guard app. As noted, the app was launched to allow anyone to convert their smartphones into their personal safety device.
The app has two main modes. Both aim to help you whenever you are working alone, traveling to an unknown area, or commuting. The first one is called the Deterrent Mode, which makes it clear to anyone in your surroundings that you are in trouble. When activated, the app displays an obvious red alert screen that anyone can see. It also releases a high-pitched alarm and a flashing light to attract help. While doing so, the app will take note of your exact location and video record your situation, and then send it to your emergency contact.
The Stealth Mode, meanwhile, sends an alarm silently while displaying the default home screen. This mode is useful in situations in which raising an alert could increase the risk of harm. More than the alarms, the app also offers additional tools, such as Journey and Meetings. Both features update the person in your emergency contact list of your current location. There are also the Reports and Man Down features, which allow you to record an incident, and report if you have a sudden fall, respectively.
